**Trigger warning: this story features images of baby loss. Do what you need to do to protect your heart**
My husband and I are 33 and 32 respectively, have been married since 2016 and been together since we were 18 years old. My husband, Dave is a farmer and I am a teacher from country Victoria.
My husband Dave and I have been married since 2016 and started trying for a baby late 2018. I was pregnant by Feb 2019, but it ended in a ruptured ectopic and I lost my right tube.
We started trying again soon after, as I just wanted to be pregnant! By October 2020, we found out I was pregnant with our rainbow baby girl. Everything was going great until the 20 week scan, where we found our baby had malformations, but they didn’t know to what extent. We scanned every week until 27 weeks, until our girl passed away.
I gave birth to our girl River in March 2021.
Again, we stared trying as soon as we felt ready and I fell pregnant by July 2021. At 7 weeks pregnant, I recieved the post mortem results of my daughter. They found that my husband and I share the same variant gene, the first case in Australia. The baby I was carrying had a 25% chance of inheriting the gene like our daughter, which was classified as causing ‘lethal malformation’.
We had to wait until 12 weeks to have a CVS complete and then at 15 weeks gestation, we found out our son had the gene variant. We opted for a Termination for Medical Reason (TFMR) and said goodbye to our boy in November 2021.
Starting IVF
Through genetic counselling, we were given the information that we could pursue IVF with PGT-M testing, which means we can find out what embryos have inherited the gene from us.
So, since Jan 2022, we’ve completed 2 IVF cycles, sent 6 embryos for testing and 3 came back healthy.
Now onto transfers.
Our first and second frozen embryo transfer ended in early losses and just now, our 3rd frozen embryo transfer did not work at all. So here we are, back at square one and somehow still holding on to some sort of hope to have a family.
After 2 failed rounds of IVF we will be looking at egg banking cycles which involved multiple stimulation cycles to get as many eggs as possible and then inseminate them and send away for PGT-M testing.
